When I sit alone

Come get a little known

But I need more than myself this time

Step from the road to the sea to the sky

And I do believe that we rely on

When I lay it on

Come get to play it on

All my life to sacrifice

Hey oh

Listen what I say, oh

I got your hey oh

Now listen what I say, oh

The winter solstice has arrived in our neck of the woods and with it, milestones the beginning return of the light. We encounter our darkest night at this time and once through it’s tunnel, we enjoy the tiniest of light slivers waxing each day.

Reading these storytelling omens, we see a path for ourselves being signaled. The Universe acknowledging the time, the season of darkening and going within and waning, to be followed once again with the return of the light and our great unfurling. And this too, is the story of astrology. There are times in astrology that yield potentials for this or that and just like the seasons we observe in nature, learning to see and work with these ebbs and flows brightens the pathways of our personal roadmaps. The life-giving rains and mild warmth of spring is not available to us all through the year (in this region at least) and so to, not all of the astrology is available to us at all times either.

The waxing and waning of cycles signals this to us. We inevitably need to have highs and lows, good days and bad, productivity and sloth, gain and loss and so forth, like a gyroscope, to keep us upright.

And so while typically, the winter solstice alone would be momentous enough to write about today, we have multiple storylines each clamoring for our good reading today.

The famed Jupiter/Saturn conjunction perfects today in the 1st degree of Aquarius. While Jupiter and Saturn conjoin every 20 years, they generally do so in the same element for a few hundred years and then switch. Prior to the final switch or “mutation,” there will be a leap ahead to the next element, then 20 years later the last conjunction in the previous element and then the next conjunction heralds the pair’s arrival in the new element.

So, for example, we’ve been in the Jupiter/Saturn earth-element conjunctions for the last few hundred years. However, in 1981, Jupiter and Saturn conjoined in Libra – an air elemented sign. This was our 20 year sneak peak at the generational-establishing titans in an air sign. Then, the last Jupiter/Saturn conjunction occurred in 2000 in Taurus, our last earth-elemented conjunction for our lifetime.

Today, the titans return to the sky, the airy domain of Aquarius hallmarking their air-based conjunction cycles for the remainder of our lifetimes. Aquarius is the landscape of Saturn and what travels through this diurnally dry land is subject to Saturn’s stern control, much like it was as Saturn transited the last few years through Capricorn. There are stark differences in the type of experience we’ll have under a Saturn in Aquarius, as compared to a Saturn in Capricorn and the next 20 years will be the historical telltale of this incoming time of austerity, reframing of our social architecture and increased digital domain. Where Saturn travels we find extremes.

Our great benefactor Jupiter, paired here with Saturn is keen to being in this relationship to some degree. Aquarius being an air sign, is the rising of heat and moisture – which are the same qualities of Jupiter. Jupiter also, has just gotten a leg up as he has just exited his debility in Capricorn. While there, Jupiter was also under Saturn’s reins and at the same time without access to resources to help. While in Capricorn, Jupiter was like an awesome Grampa who always slips you a $20 at family gatherings but couldn’t because he had a broken hip and was in rehab and then under COVID quarantine. So, he was still your awesome Grampa, but had no resources to connect with you and help you out. Now, in Aquarius, Grampa’s hip is healed, he’s out of the hospital but he has to keep a safe distance in quarantine and still find a way to get to and from physical therapy each week. He now loves to talk on the phone and use all the best technology to reconnect with you and, he figures out how to use Venmo. So a digital dollar or too show up in your bank’s back pocket.

However, Saturn does call the shots here, so the airy quality becomes magnified and Jupiter then spreads. This dynamic duo tell us the story of Jupiter spreading the message (air) of Saturn.

Saturn’s naturally falling, cold and dry quality temper the aired lift off. Because of its extremism, Saturn’s restrictions, rules, structure and control help control air’s tendency to spread rampant. Whether this “help” will be productive or not, again, the history books will tell.

Looking back to the sneak peek of when Jupiter/Saturn were conjoined in Libra in 1981, we are likely to find storylines which emerged then become a longer chapter now. One of the most significant headlines of that year while the conjunction was perfecting was that AIDS had emerged in the United States. June of 1981 is the reported start of the AIDS crisis. With this emerging disease came numerous disinformation campaigns, increased racism and prejudice against certain people of color and sexual engagements. Fear began to circulate faster than the disease perhaps and people feared touch and transmission.

Of the four temperaments in astrology, the blood humor is sanguine and is associated with the air element. In 1981, as Jupiter/Saturn conjoined for the first time in our lifetime with the sneak peak at the pair’s hallmarking and soon-coming mutation into air that we are experiencing today, December 21, 2020 – AIDS, a disease resulting from the HIV virus with rampant transmission rates, by way of blood and bodily fluids emerges and remains with us still. As time has passed, information, treatments and social awareness has continued to improve but the virus yet remains among us.

The pair return to air and among us emerging now, a new virus. As the cycles signal – the virus is likely to remain among us and continue to mutate and transform. Our blood, its seat. Information, strategy, honest communication and effective treatments are all our keys to success. AIDS/HIV transmission impacted our sexuality, our touch, our physical social connections. Once again, the pair align and rather than a prophylactic condom, we wear masks and keep socially distanced once again.

We are physical beings in a physical world and the earth element feeds that for us easily. We eat, touch, sense and feel in earth and both accumulate and lose as a result. In air, our humanity now enters a milestone, a generational archway for the next few hundred years where our physical senses will tend to find lift in the intangible. We have an opportunity to reframe what we need and how much of it, to satisfy our needs, our desires.

Air is water heated up and dried out. We cannot carry earth for long as we rise. And our emotional attachments cannot keep us bound as they dry up and break apart as we release to merge into the interconnected sky of the all.

But today’s storytellers are not done and yet have our ears in their pinched fingers.

While the darkest night passes, the light returns and the greatest malefic and benefic enter into their great mutation our of earth and into air, we at the same time have the;

·        Mars/Pluto square from the initiating signs of Aries and Capricorn

·        Black Moon Lilith conjoining Uranus in Taurus

·        Sun/Mercury within the 1st degree of Capricorn

·        Venus in Sagittarius/Pluto in Capricorn antiscia

·        1st quarter Moon within the 1st degree of the initiating sign of Aries

It’s all a lot. And that in and of itself is a main story. We have a lot going on. New and old cycles ending and beginning. Cycles denote time. The time is now available to us to take our best advantage of the doorways the storytellers are holding open for us. We’ll cross their threshold regardless, this is the energy we are moving through. Raising our awareness and how it impacts us specifically can help us find our own treasure chests along the way, depending on the constructs of our own charts.

We are here, in this wild time encountering astronomical cycles that not even our within-reach generational ancestors experienced. What will the digitized history lessons say about us? What milemarkers were we at, did we construct, did we leave behind as these cycles perfected?

What great mutation (change) are we shepherding in?
