2018-act 1

And suddenly you know: It’s time to start something new

and trust the magic of beginnings.

2018: The opening act

Full Moon at 12 degrees Cancer – The calendar new year opens up under the beams of a full moon, exacting at 12 degrees of Cancer. Full moons bring revelations, results, bring things that were hidden out into the known landscape. Often fraught with intense emotions, full moons highlight relationships – as a reflection of the natural phenomena creating the event, an oppositional relationship tethering the Moon and Sun together. The Sun’s shine is fully collected by the Moon and at last, the Moon’s hunger is satisfied. The Moon becomes satiated and proudly emanates her fullness and shine, giving each of us an extra sense of weighty emotions and more apt to act upon instincts and provide opportunities for our subconscious to slip out into our waking life.

Any full moon evokes these energies, but particularly so with this New Year’s full moon culminating in the sign of Cancer. Each sign is ruled by a planet and Cancer is ruled by the Moon. As such, themes of the full moon will tend towards emotional issues, issues concerning home, family, Mom and our safety and security.

Where does this full moon shine in your birth chart? Do you have any planets in Cancer, maybe your Sun or Moon? Also – Capricorn is the polarity to Cancer (opposing sign) and as a result the Cancerian full moon pulls you directly in as well. The vibes of this full moon will be felt most intensely for those of us with planetary placements (or angles) in both Cancer and Capricorn.

To note, this full moon will culminate on the Sun of the United States…kicking of a year of emphasis on home, security, safety and emotional tides no doubt.

Uranus stations Direct – As the year opens up, rebel rouser and chaos bringer, Uranus is stationing to go direct. Like the more well-known Mercury retrograde dance, Uranus too has the same moves, forwards and backwards. “Stationing” refers to the time period when the planet is slowing down and in a standstill just prior to its next change of direction.

Uranus will be in its stationing mode on the 1st day of the New Year and during these stationing times, the planet’s influence and energy exerted is far more palpable then when in regular motion. It’s like sitting at a red light with your feet on both the gas and brake pedal, both down to the floor and just a matter of which one pops first. So too is a planet during its stationing. Uranus is a planet that pops by itself quite easily. The message this planet reflects back to us is to expect the unexpected, to dare, to break the mold and to shake things up from the status quo. This standout spot of energy burns at 25 degrees Aries. Look to this spot in your chart and also to its polarity of Libra to see where it plays out for you. If you have any planets near this degree in either Aries of Libra, you will experience this more intensely than others.

May the New Year open with new possibilities for all of us. May we each come upon and realize new truths about our emotional investments, what is “home” to us, the sanctity of our Tribe and balancing our need to feel safe, with the care and concern for the well-being of others (Full Moon in Cancer). And also, may this year’s Uranus stationing at the forefront give each of us a jolt to break free from old habits, unproductive routines and outdated structures we may have found ourselves trapped in.

Cheers to 2018 and cheers to the Starry Wonder of it all!
