The Moon.

The Moon | Your Spirit

Just like the waxing and waning cycle of the Moon, our Spirit ebbs and flows with the happenings of our life’s journey. We lean in and away from the light in varying times and circumstances and our Spirits hunger accordingly, at times famished and at others satiated. The Moon we were born under reflects the story of these cycles, habits and tendencies.

The Moon is the fastest moving orb in our planetary pantheon. Closest to the Earth, the Moon tugs at our core as it does the tide. The Moon covers each zodiac sign monthly in about 2.5 days, charting for an approximate 28-day cycle, from the new moon phase, to its fullness and then back around again. In the waxing cycle, the Moon seeks the Sun’s light and in the waning it sheds.

The Moon reflects to us the story of what we hunger for, what we need and to what extent we seek it out, even without consciously seeking any of it. The Moon we were born under colors our habits, our needs and primal motivations for survival. In the Moon’s placement, we find our subconscious; who we are without thinking and the instinctual motivations that prompt us in our day-to-day life.

The Moon also imparts the story of how we love, nurture, care and provide primal resources such as food, shelter and clothing for others. Our relationship with our Mother or Mother-figures is told in the Moon and how we in turn, care for those that rely and depend upon us.

Sometimes, when we learn the sign of our Moon and think of it in context with its application, the story may not seem to fully match our lived experiences. The reason is that the story of our Moon goes far deeper than the sign and degree, although it is the practical starting point for all the implications of the Moon. From here, our exploration yields greater refinement with an additional evaluation of;

  • the planet that rules the Moon’s zodiacal sign, its condition[1], placement and how it connects or does not connect with other planets and the Moon itself,

  • the element[2] and mode[3] of the Moon’s sign and its weight within the chart,

  • where Cancer, ruled by the Moon is found in the Natal chart and any planets within it,

  • the temperament and quality[4] of the Moon’s sign and its planetary ruler,

  • Decanic[5] placement of the Moon and its Decanic planetary ruler,

  • the progression of the Moon and its planetary ruler as we age, and

  • connections made to the Moon and its planetary ruler by transiting astrological activity

  • the distance from the Sun to the Moon at birth (the lunar phase).

The Moon helps us answer questions like, What do I need to feel safe? How do I like to take care of others? What about the relationship I had with my Mom. At the most basic, level what do I search for? When I am stressed or scared – how do I tend to respond? It seems that even without trying, I am always doing this. These types of things bring me true joy. When I relate with others closely, I tend to fall into these patterns.
