The Sun.

The Sun | Your Unfurling

The Sun is the pivot of our solar system. Around, it our life begins and ends and begins yet again. Perhaps in different forms, but unyieldingly, life begins again. Mirrored in this same story, the Sun we were born under reflects the same story.

As the sunflowers turn towards the Sun each day with its rise and fall, so do we, to varying degrees seek its warmth and light. Moving through each zodiacal degree about each day, the Sun ushers us through the years. With its motion, we find the seasons, the climactic and ecliptic shifts in our lives. When we circle too close to its flame, we burn out and become too full of our own heat and when we are too far, we shiver and wither from its distance and our own distance from ourselves. But at eye level and just right, the Sun inspires our greatest unfurling and capacity to light the flames of others around us.

The Sun reflects the story of our life path, our calling, our greatest story. The Sun yields the proverbial “Hero’s Journey” and the choices and paths we must make and take in order to fulfill our quest. Like moths to a flame, the story of the Sun that we were each born under is the zeal of our lives. We simply must be our Sun, we are called to carry out and fulfill its characteristics and much like the hero, it is often against all hope and in the darkest depths within which we find the will and the way to do this. The path of the Sun is typically not the easiest path to take in life, but it is one that we are called to carry out against all hope and circumstance.

The Sun also imparts the story of our Father and Father-figures, how we interact with and establish our own authority, our ability to help others flourish and thrive, our life force energy, our stamina and self-confidence.

Sometimes, when we learn the sign of our Sun and think of it in context with its application, the story may not seem to fully match our lived experiences. The reason is that the story of our Sun goes far deeper than the sign and degree, although it is the practical starting point for all the implications of the Sun. From here, our exploration yields greater refinement with an additional evaluation of;

  • the planet that rules the Sun’s zodiacal sign, its condition[1], placement and how it connects or does not connect with other planets and the Sun itself,

  • the element[2] and mode[3] of the Sun’s sign and its weight within the chart,

  • where Leo, ruled by the Sun is found in the Natal chart and any planets within it,

  • the temperament and quality[4] of the Sun’s sign and its planetary ruler,

  • Decanic[5] placement of the Sun and its Decanic planetary ruler,

  • the progression of the Sun and its planetary ruler as we age, and

  • connections made to the Sun and its planetary ruler by transiting astrological activity

The Sun helps us answer questions like, What is my purpose? Why do I always seem to fall into these roles? Why was my relationship with my Father that way? How do I best mentor others? And also address life-long patterns and trends including our self-confidence, relationship with authority, energy levels, need to be seen, creativity and parenting and leadership styles, for example.
