Oct 2020 | Wk3 (10/11-10/17)

Week 3 opens up on 10/11, the Sun's day, where the prominent signature is the connection between the Sun and Jupiter. Both planets are in their debility. The fallen Sun and a fallen Jupiter connect in Cardinal signs Libra and Capricorn, inspiring us all to come to terms with unrealistic expectations.

It doesn’t have to be perfect to be good. A bounty is within our reach and sometimes, it takes a day like today to sit back and like the Buddha, give the sky a belly laugh and realize how what we thought wasn’t good enough was actually perfect all along.

We are wise to recall that the hero’s greatest unfurling shines brightest realizing that the power was always within or at hand, all along.

On Monday, 10/12 our focus is first on the Moon, as it is the Moon's Day. The Moon spends the day in the constant fires of Leo. Here the Moon triggers a couple waxing events that will likely color our day. While in the fire sign, the Moon this morning connects with the South Node in Sagittarius and retrograde Mars in Aries. Within this connection, the three placements, for the space of a couple hours hold fiercely to each other. Creative forces ring loudly during this time. Spiritual pulls and tugs from the past grab our attention, while also, an unhealed pain or war that's been raging also commands our attention. Meanwhile, another force is building pressure into this situation as the Sun's opposition to Mars waxes during the fire-trine. Keep this dynamic experience in mind as it blends into Tuesday, 10/13.

Today we get a sense that there is a battle at hand that we've been through before and despite any weakness, our Spirit clears the slate and focuses our sights on what is primary. Like the bartering with the Universe upon receipt of a dire diagnosis, we set sails to some soon-coming quest our Soul hungers for. It won't be easy. And as many people far wiser than me have said, nothing good comes easy. A loss is in the wind and as the Universe always offers the balance, also in the wind is the gain of spiritual strength; of our resolve towards overcoming.

Mars' Day, 10/13 (Tuesday) - Today, Mars, while disgruntled, weakened and fairly miserable meets the Sun by opposition in the classic me (Aries) and we (Libra) axis. This is a battered Sun. As the opposition perfects, the Sun is also in a waxing square to malefic Saturn. Further, Saturn, who finds good home in Libra further hampers the Sun's shine as the Sun sits today in Saturn's favorite seat (degree) in Libra. The Moon connects with Uranus, Mercury and as the night closes, joins with Venus in her debility in Virgo.

The story mirrored by the planets today signals a conflict, a challenge, a dynamic brought out into the open and to the light. Themes also include a fallen leader, authority, a broken pathmaker whether it is ourselves, or in a mundane sense someone "out there" in the big stage of life. It signals a struggle against the odds, finding no home, losing a home, losing our way forward and surmounting difficulty towards our unfurling. It signals a revaluation of our identity (Sun) and our path in life.

Isn't it always so that during times of struggle and change, when others "test" or challenge us that our true form comes to light? Tuesday offers these moments of discovery.

Wednesday, 10/14 - Mercury's day finds our messenger now fully engaged in retrograde motion, falling back from the 12th degree in Scorpio. Engage all the typical "Mercury in Gatorade" connotations. A special trait of this particular retrograde is that as our messenger stations to fall back, it did so with an exact connection (sextile) to Venus in Virgo, activated by the Balsamic Moon passing over that connection. Visually, it's like someone signals their coming back and likely with the Scorpio backdrop, there's a sort of mystery or secret about the whole thing. Venus in Virgo is not overly comfortable with her presentation, but is particularly brilliant about her ability to make the ordinary a perfectly practically-needed experience. Venus in Virgo works with leftovers, with the average, with the unnoticed and overlooked and through her efficiently discerning eye composes something just perfect.

While there's a fair amount of fear and propaganda on the interwebs about what not to do while Mercury is in retrograde, it is helpful to recall that astrology must be taken into context and is best, in context with our own charts. Mercury is in retrograde three times a year, the outer planets are in retrograde sometimes about half the year or more. It's not the end of the world, even by 2020 standards. Me? In context of my chart, I'll be working with this vibe and doubling down on my ancestral work, crafting goods for my online store - The Witchery on Whitney and dipping my toes back into mediumship again.

A little future forward-looking nugget...something I will be watching for on Wednesday is some unusual (I know, I know, lol) news about the coming election. The reason being that Mercury retrogrades are in 20 year cycles. This current Mercury retrograde stations direct on election day. Yep, election day. The last time Mercury stationed on an election day was, the day of the previously infamous "hanging chad" back in 2000. This year, we have the same astrological set up again. As Mercury is activated during it's retrograde this month, likely peaks in news about the coming election will ring with the weird and unexpected.

10/15 is Thor's Day and we find our greater benefic Jupiter connecting with the Balsamic Libra Moon by square. Our experience is likely to be colored with an extra need for some comfort. While the Moon is at her darkest, unmotivated by light, she lets go and accepts what is and is inclined towards a good rest. The Sun, our planetary storyteller of our life force and motivation to achieve is pinned in connection between the malefics Pluto and Saturn today. It may just feel like every which way we turn, the challenges just keep coming.

Following the Moon, we might find that a good bit of quiet time helps soothe the current circumstances. Soon, the Sun will rise renewed in the strength of the deeply powered Scorpio. But this week and through the next, the challenges stick with us. As the Sun is weakened, we may find by increasing solar energy we can summon a bit more strength for ourselves. A few simple measures, wearing yellow, adding cinnamon, rosemary, St. John's Wort and turmeric to foods are simple measures.

During this week and next in particular, we should give also careful attention to our Sun-ruled body places; eyes, heart and spine. Give extra care and caution.

Friday, 10/16 - Venus Day. We close out this work week as Venus in Virgo is waxing strongly towards connecting with Neptune in Pisces. We head into the weekend with a bit of elevated romanticism or hopeful dreams, and maybe just a good old fashioned hankering for a fine buzz to break the harshness of the week.

The New Moon perfects today in late Libra, in the degree where Mercury will fall back to during its retrograde. A powerful dynamic continues to be in play and ever so subversively twinkles at us. It's all connected. Everything.

The New Moon perfects in square to Saturn. The lunar cycle ahead is challenge-laden. Undoubtedly. Born new under this freshly seeded light, we endeavor to carry it's message forward under the waxing Moon's light for the fortnight ahead. We'll climax on Halloween as the next Full Moon culminates in Taurus on wildcard, Uranus. The Saturn shackles and the diminished Sun's light give way to the soon-coming ungrounding as the month closes out under the full moon.

A purge, a liberation walks with ghosts and goblins and knocks at our doors this coming Hallow's eve.

10/17 - Saturn's Day (Saturday), our taskmaker and authoritarian Saturn meets the Sun exactly by square. Our hard work gets harder. Especially for our Libra and Leo placements. Venus meets Neptune exactly today and a retreat reveals itself in the form of a relationship, our intimate connections, our lifted senses and creative pursuits. We may tend to push these pursuits a little too far tonight. Take extra care if out on the roadways. This aspect is accentuated for our Virgo, Pisces Taurus and Libra placements.
